Intel presents its 14th generation HX gaming laptop CPUs at CES 2024, including a clock speed of up to 5.8GHz.

The 14th generation Intel Core HX CPUs for gaming laptops have been formally introduced by Intel. The new HX range is largely performance-oriented and does not have a neural processing unit (NPU), in contrast to the 14th generation Intel Core Ultra series of CPUs. Gaming laptops from leading brands like Alienware, Acer, Asus, Razer, and more will soon be available in a few areas. These laptops will be equipped with the latest 14th Gen Intel Core HX CPUs and NVIDIA/AMD GPUs.

More in line with the 14th Gen Intel Core desktop processors than the 14th Gen Intel Core Ultra processor (Meteor Lake), the 14th Gen Intel Core HX family of processors is an improved version of the 13th Gen (Raptor Lake Refresh) processors with slightly higher CPU clock rates. In terms of gaming performance, AMD's flagship mobile CPU, the Ryzen 9 7945HX, is slower than the Intel Core i9-14900HX, according to figures released by Intel.

Under the 14th Gen Intel Core HX family of gaming laptop CPUs, the company has unveiled five new CPUs. The flagship model, the Intel Core i9-14900HX, is a 24-core CPU with a boost turbo frequency of 5.8 GHz and support for up to 192 GB of RAM. 

Intel has released new entry-level 14th Gen desktop processors (non-K versions) with a little lower clock speed and a suggested TDP in addition to the new gaming laptop chips. These include the Intel Core i9-14900, which has a 24-core CPU with a 65W base TDP, and the Intel Core i7-14700, which has a 20 core CPU. Similar SKUs are available for entry-level PC configurations, such as the Intel Core i13-14100 and Intel processor 300.
